Hey guys! How is it already December? I literally sped down the stairs when my mum said that this had arrived – I was so excited! Look just how beautiful the box is! Christmas has definitely come early with Birchbox. They teamed up with fashion designer Matthew Williamson which is what the box’s design is based off of.
The theme for this box is Life’s Little Treasure’s and you can definitely see that through the products they chose – it’s all about pampering yourself!
So, let’s get into it!
- LOC Vibrant Matte Lipstick in Color Me Confident – RRP £6.50.
I was so excited when we were given the choice of what shade we wanted of this lip product. I’ve seen it before on other people’s posts so I was really eager to try it for myself and see if it was worth the hype. The shade itself is a rich cranberry red and I’m going to be doing a look with it in the next few days which is why there isn’t any swatches. The lipstick itself claims to have a formula that doesn’t dry out but I would have to disagree with that – it’s a lovely texture but it does dry out your lips. It does bleed out though if you try and wear it just by itself so make sure you pair it with a lipliner that matches / is close to the colour. The only other thing I would say, too, is that even though it is full size, it’s such a tiny applicator that it’s quite difficult to hold.
2. Baija Paris Caramelised Honey Body Scrub – RRP £14.90.
This was so big that I had to get my mum to help me open up the drawer! It is one of my favourite things we’ve ever had in a Birchbox – I wish you guys could smell it. I opened up the lid and it smells good enough to eat! It just smells like pure caramel. I love body scrubs and this one is one of the best smelling ones I’ve ever used. It’s a blend of sugar, honey and sunflower seed oil so you can smell super sweet, too!
3. Kebelo Clarifying Shampoo – RRP £13.95
I’ve got to admit, I rolled my eyes when I saw yet another hair product in this Birchbox. It’s the only gripe that I have with Birchbox, they send so many hair products and I’m a bit bored of it. This shampoo claims to detox your hair and restore it from all of the product build up that happens throughout time. I was a bit apprehensive to try this because I dye my hair so I was worried it would strip the colour but it didn’t. My hair definitely does feel soft but I wouldn’t say anymore so than when I usually wash my hair. You’re supposed to only use it once a month, too, so I was expecting a huge difference so I was quite disappointed.
4. Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream – RRP £20.
Again, I rolled my eyes when I saw yet another Balance Me product – I think I have about three now! I don’t mind them as a brand but I wouldn’t go out of my way to have them in my skincare routine – especially with how expensive they are. I do have dark circles around my eyes though so I was looking forward to see what this does. It has lemon, cucumber, witch hazel and more natural ingredients within that are supposed to nourish your eyes. I’ve used it a few times now and I wouldn’t say that anything special happened – my eyes did feel soft but they normally do after I’ve taken my makeup off anyway so all in all: eh.
5. Spectrum Collections B04 Angled Blender Brush – RRP £4.99
Ending on a positive, I was so happy to see another Spectrum brush in this Birchbox. I absolutely swear by Spectrum brushes. I’ve always been a bit of a cheapskate about makeup brushes as they’re always quite expensive but Spectrum is the only brand that I think I would spend the money on – and to be fair, they aren’t that expensive! The sets themselves are, however, so I’d be careful which one I bought. This one is so good for placing eyeshadow into your crease – I have a look where I used this to create a soft cut crease look for Christmas coming up! The brush is so soft just like the last one I had, too.
All in all, I was really happy with this box – I think it’s one of the best ones I’ve had aside from the shampoo and the eye cream. I wouldn’t call them total losses, however, and they’re backed up by the super Christmassy lip colour and the indulgent body scrub. I can’t wait to see what 2018 brings for Birchbox! I’m tempted to take on another subscription box so let me know in the comments below which one you would recommend!
