Hey guys! I’ve already done a little review on this before on my Instagram story but by the time this posts, that’ll be long gone. I’ve never seen the need for primers really but I guess that’s because I’ve never found the right one! I was really getting down over Christmas about my skin because it was breaking out so so badly and it was so oily that no powder could control it. I tried changing my diet, I tried changing foundations but nothing was working.
So, I took the plunge and went into Debenhams. If you guys have ever been to the beauty part of Debenhams before then you’ll know it’s like playing Gauntlet on Gladiators getting past all of the makeup advisors. So when one snuck up on me as I was looking at all of the Urban Decay products that I wanted (but couldn’t afford), I actually asked for her advice. I’m similar to my mum (she’s posted about her skin journey here) in that I don’t mind spending a little bit more on products that are good for my skin because I think it’s worth it. But I didn’t want to try the primer for that amount of money without knowing that it was going to be any good.
She asked me questions about my skin type and suggested drinking more water which I’m definitely making more of an effort to do but she also suggested buying the Optical Illusion Primer*. I said that I was a bit concerned as my skin doesn’t react well to a lot of products so she sold the travel size to me which was cheaper and 15ml so that I could test it out.
The consistency itself is really different to how I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to be silicone based but it’s more like a really thick cream. It’s similar to the Erborian Pink Creme which I’ve reviewed here but a lot thicker. A little of this goes a long way which I really like.
I honestly couldn’t believe the difference. It claims to blur imperfections and at the time of testing, I had a huge spot on my chin which was standing out to me so much. But when I wiped the primer over it, it literally did blur it. Obviously, it didn’t hide it completely but it definitely made it blend better into the skin. It also made your skin all the same colour and fixed any discolouration because I have areas of redness and yellowness, too. I was honestly so shocked at how good my skin looked right before I applied my foundation.
Then, it got even better! I applied my foundation and it looked so much better than ever before. My foundation normally begins to show the oil through after about an hour but with the primer, it lasted for six hours. Even after that, it only was the tiniest bit oily. I still didn’t need to powder it over the top.
Obviously, I can’t speak for everyone and all different skin types but for me, this primer is the best thing since sliced bread. I definitely will be buying it full size again once this travel one runs out. I really recommend it to anyone who has a similar skin type to me.
So, there you have it! I don’t think I’ve ever written so many words on just one product but I really do enjoy this primer so much. If you guys have any other products you would like me to review/try then please let me know in the comments below!
