Hey guys! How is your January going? Mine is going so well, I might even do a post about it – I’ve changed my mindset completely this year and I’m noticing a change in both myself and people around me. But the one thing I’ll always be excited for is my Birchbox. This month they teamed up with Ohh Deer, a stationery brand that champions creativity. The design of the box is so cute and their slogan for this collaboration is Stand Tall which is the best way to start the year!
So, let’s get into it!
Lord & Berry Blusher Crayon in Peach – RRP £15.
I feel like we’ve had a Lord & Berry product in a Birchbox before but when I’ve looked back, I couldn’t find any so maybe I’ve made it up in my head. But I was excited to see them in here nonetheless! I think one of the only gripes I have with Birchbox is that there are some times when you don’t get a brand that you’ve heard of before but then when you do, it’s extra exciting so I guess it’s swings and roundabouts. I was a little concerned about this being a crayon as I have extremely sensitive skin and when I swatched it on my hand, I didn’t think that the pencil was particularly soft. But when I put it on my cheeks, it was fine. It blended out nicely but all in all, it’s a bit? Eh? I love blush but I’d rather have the same formula in a different presentation.
Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner in Charcoal – RRP £10.99.
I have never heard of Marcelle before but I was quite excited to see this as I haven’t used a kohl liner in so long, I can’t even tell you the last time I owned one. I never really use them on top of the lid but I normally use them in the tight line or the waterline to give the eyes an extra smokey look. This one is really smooth and easy to use but I wouldn’t say it particularly stood out from any other eyeliner? Am I being harsh? Maybe!
Thermaliv Night Cream – RRP £15.75.
I was kind of excited to see this in here even though I’m not overly interested in skincare. I know, gasp horror shock twist. But! The main reason is because my skin is so sensitive that I avoid using too many skin products on it as I feel it has the opposite effect and makes me break out even more. This might be unfounded. But this cream is specifically for if you don’t have a good night’s sleep – sleep is essential for your skin, it re-moisturises it, re-plumps it and generally just makes it feel so much better. So if you’re struggling in this flu season and not being able to sleep, this should help your skin out a little! I personally did quite like this but I wouldn’t say enough to add it to my everyday routine.
PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray – RRP £17.
Honestly. Every time I get sent a hair product from Birchbox, I just get frustrated. There’s only been one that they’ve sent me that I actually like but I really don’t like sea salt sprays as a rule. I just feel like they make your hair a really odd texture so if anyone does like them then I’ll be putting them in a future giveaway!
Afterspa Amazing Makeup Remover – RRP £5.50.
I was intrigued by this product. It’s a very, very soft flannel that is supposed to remove your makeup easily without scrubbing as you have to do with some wipes. At first, I had to admit that I pulled a face – I couldn’t see that it was very hygenic. Then I read more into it and saw that you have to put it in the washing machine after every wash. This is literally so pointless if you’re like me and you wear makeup every day. While I was trying out the remover, it is very good – I tried it with a natural look and a heavy smokey eye. Both of them were removed in seconds. However, I can’t see that this would make much difference to the environment (which is what I think they’re trying to achieve) as you would have to use more electricity to power the washing machine to wash it, so! All in all; a very successful product but one that I wouldn’t personally want myself.
Worth of box if all fullsize: £64.24
What I paid: £13.
Overall, I liked the idea of a lot of these products but I just didn’t like them themselves very much. I’m keeping the kohl liner in my makeup bag as I’m using that quite regularly now.
P.S. Have you entered my giveaway yet? You still have TWO days to enter before I announce the winner!
